The Sarah Selecky Writing School

The Story Intensive at The Sarah Selecky Writing School

This fall I’ll be teaching a section of The Story Intensive, a phenomenal writing program that takes the genius of Sarah Selecky’s self-study writing program, The Story Course, and pairs it with a teacher and students working on the lessons together.

I was a student of both The Story Course and the Story Intensive back in 2012 and taught the Intensive previously as well. I can’t say enough good things about Sarah’s course, and as both a Story Course student and a Story Intensive teacher, I stand behind them as recommended resources for writers.

If you want to work with me in an online classroom setting, this is the only way to do it this year.

Who it’s for:

The Story Intensive is for you if you have a deep desire to write, but feel as though there’s a thick glass wall separating you from your vibrant, creative flow state.

It’s also for you if you find it hard to write alone, or are craving connection with other writers but don’t have the ability to enroll in an in-person class or MFA program.

The Story Intensive is for you if you want to grow as a writer, understand what makes a story work, and get valuable feedback on your work from a trusted writing teacher.

This program is suitable for both advanced and beginner writers.

What it is:

In seven parts, you’ll learn (and experiment with) the finer points of freewriting, starting a story, character development, dialogue, plot, point of view and receptive reading: all developed to sharpen and support their own writing.

Each lesson contains how-to explanations, practice materials and tidbits of wisdom perfected over Sarah Selecky’s years of teaching. The in-depth exercises, video tutorials, extraordinary story examples and detailed audio debriefs are on hand to help you stay dedicated and inspired, every step of the way.

A few examples of what you’ll learn: ‘Five Perfect Ways to Start a Story,’ how to combine ‘Humor and Sorrow: The Magic Combination’ and how ‘Art Happens When You Go Off Track.’

Sarah Selecky has been teaching conscious creative writing since 2001. Her program combines refined technique with mindful exploration, helping participants not only create marvelous work, but discover their unique voice, depth and presence of mind as they write.
